Hi,

Tim Catlett (who's been to a few of our meetups in the past) emailed me asking if anyone'd be interested in an internship. I asked him a few other questions, but here's the text of the email, pretty much verbatim:

You may remember me, I got to attend a few Lesswrong meetings (and hosted one at my apartment)  during a work lull before work once again intervened. I have a new job now, and we are the process of recruiting interns for the summer. I think some of the Less Wrong group might be interested and qualified for the work, and we want strong applicants, so I thought I would see if anyone is interested.

I work for the non-profit AidGrade (http://www.aidgrade.org/), which conducts meta-analysis of international development interventions and works to create better infrastructure for non-profits to employ academic data. While we try to avoid the label, its fair to say that we want to be for non-profit strategists what Givewell is for small donors. We even had a Less Wrong post back in the day! (http://lesswrong.com/lw/gfd/aidgrade_givewell_finally_has_some_competition/) Our interns would generally help create our databases of impact evaluations and help compose white papers on interventions, but as a start-up we are pretty flexible and create roles around people's skill sets. Link to our post about the internship: http://www.aidgrade.org/uncategorized/summer-internship

Don't worry about the deadline (in the post) of course - that blog post is the "public" outreach for applications, but we also have individual posts on sites such as university career networks and the like that have different deadlines, so we will still be getting applications for a few weeks.

We are generally pretty flexible on time commitment, we are looking for full time interns but if people with the right skills wish to work part time we can make it happen. I would say our interns should work a minimum of 20 hours a week, and the majority of our interns will work the full time minimum of 40 hours a week. Our average intern will work from June to the end of August, and I would say we expect at least 2 months of work - otherwise it isn't worth the costs of training. For people who wish to work less than that, we do have a volunteer Data Corps who assists us (http://www.aidgrade.org/get-involved), and I would be happy to bring more people into that program, but I wouldn't call them interns at that point.

As for pay, the majority of our interns will be unpaid, sadly - we are still new, and in the process of fundraising. That being said, if someone has the right skills in statistical analysis (or other skillsets like programming or fundraising/outreach experience), we do have some funds set aside and can work out an arrangement.

If you would be willing to circulate it and of the LessWrongians would be interested, they can email me (either at this email or address or tcat...@aidgrade.org) with a resume and we can discuss the work.

Please let me know if you consider this spam: it seemed sufficiently on topic given LW and AidGrade's common interests.
