Disappearing Cursor

I don't have a cursor.  To figure out where I am I use shift-arrow to select a character.

Can anyone help me out?  I'm running 0.12.1.3 on Mountain Lion 10.8.1.

I'm using 7.4.1, so I only tested that one, but it works!
