Hello everyone,

I think I am ready now to make a formal release of 3.0. My question to Craig
is, is the documentation and ledger-mode ready for such a release? My
question to others: can you verify that you believe the current state of
'master' is ready for such a release?

After this release is made, no further "tarball" releases will be created.
All future updates will be delivered through Git, and merely a tag made to
indicate a new stable version from time to time.

Thanks!
John

I think the documentation is acceptable. It certainly isn't complete, but I think it is very useable. The biggest weakness is still the value expression section.

ledger-mode is ready to go. I am still working on an auto scheduler to add transactions, but it is taking too long.
There are some long-standing performance problems on really large buffers but I think those are insoluble inside emacs.

Three Cheers for 3.0!!! Yay! Yay! Yay!

Question: Have you any plans for MacPorts? You're still listed as the ledger port maintainer.
I've been happy with 2.6.2, but I'm wondering if it should be deprecated, or if it is worth
having a ledger3 or not even bothering with MacPorts at all. (I'll try to build 3.0 from source
once it is official; sadly I cannot volunteer to maintain the port)

Thanks,
-=Doug

I would prefer to deprecate 2.6.2 and provide an updated MacPort. We still get 2.6x question and many of us have never used it.

I wrote a MacPorts Portfile for 3.0, but after _two years_ was unable to get
it into MacPorts itself, because they kept knocking it back due to stylish
things they wanted changed before they would accept it. Finally, I just gave
up and moved to Homebrew. I have no intention of supporting MacPorts now.

Bugs #784/#787 are important for me. With the latest explanation, I think that solving #784 would solve #787. But I admit I have a "more than 2 minutes" workaround. Not blocking for 3.0. For #784, as suggested, I will open this weekend a feature request.

Same opinion than Craig (acceptable, incomplete, value expression is biggest weakness). Anyway, acceptable for 3.0.

ledger-mode is ready to go.

I reported many bugs about new ledger mode (almost all solved now), but I wonder if it it widely used? New ledger mode is recent. Is is stable enough?
Bug #915 has just been closed as WONTFIX by Craig. This is, I believe, the same bug as #957. This is a regression compared to old ledger mode. I would really appreciate any little fix on this one.
Some people this week complained on IRC about new ledger mode (if I remember well, several bugs, one related to undo), but to my knowledge, bugs have not been entered in Bugzilla. Makes me wonder if old ledger mode should be kept, even if new ledger mode has many advantages.

Will be really happy when 3.0 will be published,
Thierry

Thierry, sorry about 957, I forgot about it. It should be fixed now.
915 is different and frankly a pain to fix for not much gain. I may
come back to it later.

I don't have time to IRC, but if someone there has a ledger-mode bug,
please have them email me directly.

It is strange that so many people can use the old ledger.el It would
never do anything other than highlighting for me. That is why I set
out to fix things. I won't be insulted if people want to use the old
one, but except for some performance problems on huge buffers, I don't
know of any reason to hold back.
