Hi there,

I've set up a test node already but we're planning to set up a new node
on a proper server. Could you please advise us about RAM and storage
requirements? We will probably want to distribute our data to one of
your test/development nodes, provided that's okay with you. I'm not
sure exactly how much data we have yet but I will know soon. We are
thinking about publishing data, from a service called Jorum, on a node.

CouchDB likes to utilise RAM so I thought 8 Gb would suffice. As for
storage, I thought 250 Gb would suffice. What do you think?

Cheers, Nick

Hi Nick,

Your RAM and storage requirements will depend on how much data you're planning to host and partly on how you plan to publish data (large sets vs smaller sets). We're hosting on the Large instances of Amazon EC2. We found that the Small instances did not have enough disk or RAM if your resource data size reached close to ~8GB. You can find specs on the different instance types here:

http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/

Due to the various types of indexing in LR, I would recommend allocating storage space as large as 20x your data size. This is the most important consideration. RAM size is the second most important consideration.

Thanks,
Suraiya
