Hi everyone.

We are very impressed with the progress of the group so far and now
there are only two days left and you will be a competent wiki
developer!

WikiEducator is a community of Educators. One of our core community
values is the belief that educational content is unique (i.e. it is
different from other forms of content). An educational resource is
different in terms of its purpose, structure and format when
compared, for example, to a newspaper article, or a novel.

Those of us with experience in distance education will be familiar
with the educational elements we embed in our teaching materials, for
example learning objectives and in-text activities etc.

Working through our WE tutorials you would noticed the special layout
we use for learning objectives, discussion activities, teaching tips.
In our wiki jargon, we call these pedagogical wiki templates.

Today you will learn how to set up these pedagogical templates in your
pages.

INSTRUCTIONS

1) Work through Tutorial 9 on Creating and Using Pedagogical
Templates:

http://wikieducator.org/Wikieducator_tutorial/Pedagogical_Templates

2) Insert at least one pedagogical template on your user page, this
will be required later for your certification as a Wikibuddy.

TIP

Here is a comprehensive list of all the Pedagogical Templates:

http://wikieducator.org/Quickstart_guide/pedagogical_templates

You can download a cheatsheet for Pedagogical Templates here:

Dear Patricia and Randy,

This is Viswanathappa from India. The M.Ed. students of RIE, Mysore are creating content and assignments by using WE. The details are available in http://www.wikieducator.org/User:ICT-RIEM_2008-09. Each student is asked to work with this page. They have their own user page and linked with this. Their are simultaniously working with this page. The problem with uploading the contents. Some user uploading information is saving and others it is not saving. Please inform the procedure of uploading to same page by various users simultaniosly.
The another proble is linking the word document with extension doc. The procedure of linking the word document created in MS-Office may be explained.

Thank you

Hi Susan,

Nice picture on your site. Thanks for this. Which template are you
referring to specifically? or do you mean the infobox?
Warm regards,
Patricia

Thanks ...

I did the pedagogical template ... per the instruction for today ...
ended up deleting it ...

Seemed to busy ... but this brings a larger question ... the
relationship of the sandbox to the user page to actual content
pages ... I have a feeling a created everything in one place and now
am a tad concerned about breaking things about ...

THoughts?

Dear Dr. Viswanathappa,

The first thing that struck me when reading your questions was the fact that you would like to upload a MS Word document (.doc) to WikiEducator. As WikiEducator is a free/libre environment, documents with the ending .doc cannot be uploaded to WikiEducator. I recommend you upload the free software Open Office 2.3 (http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/New_Features_2.3), create your file in the Open Office Writer and then upload it as regular file with a file extension and syntax such as this: [Image:File name.ott or odt]].

As for your comments regarding the editing conflict that is being created by the use of many users entering information as the same time, you are right, this can be challenging. The Wiki will tell you that there is an ‘editing conflict’ and will compare one version with the other one for you have to go in manually, to check out which version is the right one. We recommend that people start working offline until they are ready to upload the final information. This can be done in the sandbox of their individual [[my sandbox/]].

Please see here for more information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edit_conflict

Warm regards,

Patricia

Hi Susan,

That clarifies it. I think it depends on how and what for you want to be
using these templates

The sandbox is your personal page on your user page. You can use it to
practice or just to tell us about you, upload personal photos or use it
as drafting place for things you work on, a to-do list.

Content is everything, but there are different types of content pages.

Educational content for the use in the classroom, a study guide or
teacher handhout, for instance, or your own content as just described.

Hope this helps.

I moved what you had in the sandbox to your main page because when I
opened your user page, you had an empty page. Look at the "edit"
function and you will see how I have done this. By creating a subpage
you can sort the things you want to create content for.

Hai Patricia and Randy

I am using pedagogical templates in my content.  The scope of these pedagogical templates is limited, as in the list there is no chance for creating a new titles pedagogical template. For example it is restricted to objectives, competencies, key points, activity, discussion, reflection etc. If  I want to use review or overview, there is no way.  What to do?  I have finished activities of Day 9.

Hi Undurthy,

There is a way ~ as is always the case with the wiki!

You can make your own!

First you create a new page. For example, if you want to create a "Frame" Template, go to www.wikieducator.org/Template:Activity or any template you want to base the "Frame Template" on.

Click Edit.

Select All from the Activity Template.

Copy and Paste the content into a Word or Open Office Text Document.

Click Find and Replace - Find the word "Activity" and replace it by the word "Frame".

Save the document with the changes.

Now, go back to WikiEducator, and create the New Template Page - Frame

www.wikieducator.org/Template:Frame

Click Edit

Copy and paste the text from the Word or Open Office document, into the WikiEd Editing Window.

Write "creating template" in the Summary box.

Click Save

Voila - it's done...

Now one other thing....you will have to find an image to illustrate the new template.....check it out here....

http://wikieducator.org/Template:Frame

Let's ask Wayne or Patricia now, where you can get the images....

Hi Randy

I have made template:frame.

Visit www.wikieducator.org/User:Undurthy/My_Sandbox_for_Randy/Template:Frame

But when I replaced 'Frame' with 'conceptual frame' or 'concept' I couldn't get the same result. I have uploaded a picture into the template but couldn't delete it.

How do I bring this new template into my page?
How do I get the icon for template?
If I want to delete the newly created page, what is the way?
