Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Matajis,
Please accept my humble obeisances! All glories to Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev!
Today we are observing the second disappearance anniversary (Tirobhava Mahotsava) of our most beloved spiritual master His Holiness Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj. On this occasion it is important that we remember and glorify our beloved spiritual master. It is said in Srimad Bhagavatam 3.13.4
shrutasya pumsaam sucira-shramasya
nanv anjasa suribhir idito 'rthah
tat-tad-gunaanushravanam mukunda-
paadaaravindam hrdayeshu yeshaam
"Persons who hear from a spiritual master with great labor and for a long time must hear from the mouths of pure devotees about the character and activities of pure devotees. Pure devotees always think within their hearts of the lotus feet of the Personality of Godhead, who awards His devotees liberation."
Srila Prabhupada writes in the purport that, "A pure devotee of the Lord cannot be separated from the lotus feet of the Lord for even a moment. Undoubtedly the Lord is always within the hearts of all living creatures, but they hardly know about it because they are deluded by the illusory material energy. The devotees, however, realize the presence of the Lord, and therefore they can always see the lotus feet of the Lord within their hearts. Such pure devotees of the Lord are as glorious as the Lord; they are, in fact, recommended by the Lord as more worshipable then He Himself. Worship of the devotee is more potent than worship of the Lord. It is therefore the duty of the transcendental students to hear of pure devotees, as explained by similar devotees of the Lord, because one cannot explain about the Lord or His devotee unless one happens to be a pure devotee himself.’
It is also important that we contemplate and meditate on our duty as disciples of such an exalted spiritual master. In Rajkot, HG Vaishnava seva prabhuji referred to the purports of the verses in Srimad Bhagavatam 4.28.47 through 52. These wonderful purports are worth meditating by all of us and our heartfelt thanks to HG Vaishnava seva prabhuji for this. I would like to share here with the important points from these purports:
1.The bereavement of the disciple on the passing away of the spiritual master: "Just a devoted wife becomes afflicted at the passing away of her husband, when a spiritual master passes away, the disciple becomes similarly bereaved." (Purport to SB verses 4.28.49)
2. How the disciple serves the spiritual master who is no longer physically existing? "As long as the spiritual master is physically present, the disciple should serve the physical body of the spiritual master, and when the spiritual master is no longer physically existing, the disciple should serve the instructions of the spiritual master." (Purport to SB verse 4.28.47)
3.The duty of the disciple to execute the spiritual master's mission: "It is the duty of the disciples to take charge of the mission of the spiritual master and execute it properly. Otherwise the disciple should decide to die along with the spiritual master. In other words, to execute the will of the spiritual master, the disciple should be prepared to lay down his life and abandon all personal considerations." (Purport to SB verse 4.28.50)
4. The result of seriously following the mission of the spiritual master: "When one becomes serious to follow the mission of the spiritual master, his resolution is tantamount to seeing the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This means meeting the Supreme Personality of Godhead is in the instruction of the spiritual master. This is technically called vaani-seva. Srila Vishvanatha Cakravarti Thakura states in his Bhagavad-gita commentary on the verse vyavasaayaatmikaa buddhir ekeha kuru-nandana (Bhagavad Gita verse 2.41) that one should serve the words of the spiritual master. The disciple must stick to whatever the spiritual master orders. Simply by following on that line, one sees the Supreme Personality of Godhead." (Purport to SB 4.28.51)
5. The sincere disciples get direct instructions from the Supersoul in the physical absence of the spiritual master: "The Paramatma is always the caitya-guru, the spiritual master within, and He comes before one externally as the instructor and initiator spiritual master. The Lord can reside within the heart, and He can also come out before a person and give him instructions. Thus the spiritual master is not different from the Supersoul sitting within the heart. An uncontaminated soul or living entity can get a chance to meet the Paramatma face to face. Just as one gets a chance to consult with the Paramatma within his heart, one also gets a chance to see Him actually situated before him. Then one can take instructions from the Supersoul directly. This is the duty of the pure devotee: to see the bona fide spiritual master and consult with the Supersoul within the heart..In the perplexing situation of the passing away of the spiritual master, the Supersoul immediately appears, provided the devotee is purified in heart by following the directions of the spiritual master." (Purport SB verse 4.28.52)
To conclude let us remember the golden words of Srila Gurudev, "For Vaishnavas there is no such thing as goodbyes... as long as you are following my instructions, I will always be with you - only time separates us from our service. Do not waste time!"
Our prayers at the lotus feet of our glorious spiritual master that let us become sincere and serious in following the instructions and mission of our beloved Gurudev.
Thank you very much.
Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudev,
