"You should be paid for the problems you solve and the solutions
you find, instead of service or product you provide."
Simon Bailey

Think about people you consider great leaders. Do you look up to
them and respect them as leaders because of the product, company
or organization they represent? Probably not.

Most likely you admire them as leaders because they use their
skills and talents to establish improved systems, resolve nagging
problems and engage a larger pool of people.

A leader makes the organization look good, not vice versa. If you
know someone who thinks they are a leader but their only
credibility is because of the company they represent it becomes
obvious very quickly that person is not a leader.

True leaders have people following them toward a bold new vision.
Leaders are taking people somewhere they haven't been
before. Leaders are solving problems and finding or creating new
solutions.

That's why a great leader can turnaround a struggling organization
or a dysfunctional team. The leader gets people working together to
create a future different from the past. This new future might not
be revolutionary . . . but it will be an improvement on the past
that is visible both inside and outside the immediate team or
organization.

Think . . . and act . . . like a leader!
