I'm looking for software or browser plug-in or something I can use to
study the scriptures on my laptop.

I'd like to be able to highlight, annotate, and export my
annotations. I'd also like it to be free. The best thing I've seen
so far is the scrapbook plug-in for Firefox (haven't tried it though).

Any suggestions? I know this question got asked a while ago, but I'm
hoping there's something good available now. I really don't want to
have to code something, but I might if I have to :)

Thanks,
Rachel

Scripturesapp.com was built for the iPhone and cell phones, but it
does all that. You can do some of that on scriptures.lds.org as well.

Check out diigo.com for general web site annotating and highlighting.

Also, I'm slowly but surely working on a web app to fill the need.  Check out http://wiki.gdw2.com/ScriptureApp .  Right now, it's in super-alpha (practically useless), but I hope to have a beta in a few months.

That was created by one who frequent's IRC under nickname 'beandog'.
I've forgotten his real name (sorry beandog). Here's the downloads:

If you don't need the power of a database, you can download the
OpenDocument formatted version, and publish to PDF for use on pretty
much any platform, including hand-held's.

Uh, that is Steve Dibb. As can be verified by clicking on "Contact":

"My name is Steve Dibb. Hello."

Nice job Steve!

For iPhone users -- a friend just released a scripture reading app. I'm not sure what's all involved in the app as I don't have an iPhone but it's worth checking out.

I've been meaning to answer this thread too. I bought an eeePc a few months back and have a setup that I really like.

For scripture reading i use MobiPocket Desktop version (the scriptures and church doc are all available for free and you can markup stuff)
http://www.mobipocket.com/en/downloadsoft/productdetailsreader.asp

I use Foxit Reader for viewing PDFs since it allows highlighting and marking up PDFs and tabbed viewing(you really need the PDF version for the Teaching of the Prophets) The teacher always refers in the lesson 'On the 2nd paragraph page 256' and being able to follow the pages have been great for me.
http://foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Two other tips on the side, if you are really into reading on your laptop invert your display (program- powerstrip http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=169) and don't be afraid to rotate your display and use the laptop in a book form (there is a great eeePc application that rotates the touchpad with the display to help keep it useable http://vk.edward.li.googlepages.com/eeerotate).

Let me know if this is useful for you.

Thanks, Clint. I'll have to look into those programs.

Where did you get the standard works in mobipocket format? I
considered mobipocket, but couldn't find the scriptures (for free
anyway).

I think it was this site: http://www.ldspocket.com/freedownload.html

That page should have all the standard works interlinked. If it doesn't let me know. I can send it to you. I know where ever I got them from they were posted free and legal.
