Howdy, folks --

There is no place in La Crosse to play proper Ultimate for free without getting kicked off the field.  The past two summers have taught us this.

If you want to play 7-v-7 Ultimate on a regulation-size field in La Crosse, you have one option: Pay for field space.

Essentially, that's what Summer League is: paying for a place where we can't get kicked off the fields.

We currently have 17 people signed up for Summer League.  There are 81 people on this here distribution list (and most of you have friends).  We haven't much time left to prove to Parks & Rec that there is enough interest to have a league.

If you want to play Ultimate, go to Parks & Rec with $30 dollars.  You'll get three months of twice weekly Ultimate (one day a formal summer league; one day a casual pick-up and/or skills clinic).

If you don't want to pay to play Ultimate, we will try to continue our haphazard meeting times at various locations that may or may not be preempted by anyone who has actually paid for the space or showed up before us.

The Ultimate community is what we want to make it, but we are limited by the beautiful geography of the Coulee region.

The choice is clear: pay for fields and play Ultimate, or endure another summer of maybe sometimes playing on a field fit for Lilliputians.

Two more. Don't ask if it's my son or my wife, they haven't straightened that out yet.

Sam, are there any high schoolers signed up yet?

I will be signed up shortly.  Is there a specific date that we should be signed up, or is it at Parks and Rec's discretion?

Parks and Rec has issued no specific date, but has indicated that if there isn't enough interest, they will cancel Summer League.  It seems to me that the best way to show that there is interest is to have the requisite number of people signed up significantly in advance of the league starting.

So we are requesting that people sign up ASAP.  The sooner we can get to 50 (we're at 24), the better.

If Parks and Rec does issue a drop-dead date, I will let you all know.
