Any chance you can attend the tree park
sub-committee meeting on the 18th? It would be great if you could be the
liaison for this Junior Forest Steward program with Christine (tree park),
and Beth McKinstry (troop leader). I can call Beth to make sure her troop
would be interested and then we could have a formal meeting when all the
logistics are figured out. Do you want me to call her or would you like
to... Her name is Beth McKinstry
(412)661-2963 EMCKI...@aol.com. It would
be great to have the troops earn a patch while learning about our tree park.

Hi guys,
As one of your newer additions I was going to sit back and observe for a
while before I started to get stuck into things but this mention of Scouts
may be an op.
I did the PA Forest Stewardship program through PSU and a requirement to
"repay" the training was to do community outreach on forestry issues for any
age group. There is a "Junior Forest Steward" program aimed at 10-12 yr
olds that may be of interest for the troop. It is flexible and as long as
some basic aresa are covered, it can include a variety of topics. (Because
it is flexible, it may possibly be adapted for the older scouts). They
receive a neat patch when they finish and all training materials are
provided by PSU and DCNR. I offered this to Caitlyn at FPUF but I don't
think they have an audience. It is a good winter activity. Any interest,
let me know.
(I am also developing a course for Pitt's OSHER program that will be called
"Trees n'At").
BTW I will attend on 21st.
