The Takedown - CFO receives sentence for role in massive mortgage fraud scheme

A Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a mortgage payment company has been sentenced for her role in a $78 million mortgage fraud scheme.

According to her plea agreement, CFO Carole Nelson's co-conspirators targeted home purchasers and owners to participate in the "Dream Homes Program," an alleged mortgage payment program. Program representatives lured homeowners and purchasers to invest $50,000 and pay an "administrative fee" of up to $5,000 in automated teller machines (ATMs), flat screen televisions and electronic kiosks by promising to make the homeowner's future monthly mortgage payments and to pay off the mortgage within five to seven years.
