Hi all,
I am forwarding you this email from Asbjørn Wahl, Norway, coordinator of Campiagn for the Welfare State. I contacted Asbjorn in order to verify his availability to join our group in view of the next EPA.
As you see, his anwer is very positive.
In attachment you can find a text elaborated along their investigation on the welfare state historical model, thta was one of the topics we thought to touch in our meeting in the next EPA.
I propose in June, after Rostok, to go on in the preparation of this next meeting.

Fr now, I hope you are all fine.
All the best

Marco

Dear Marco,

Thank you for your message.

Regarding the preparatory meeting in Stockholm, I support your proposal of having a (full day) meeting on Friday for the Global network of Labour. I also support your proposals for topics, and I could take responsibility for the discussion on the welfare system (which I also think should be an important topic at the European Social Forum in Scandinavia).

I will also try to mobilise more trade unionists from the Scandinavian countries to this preparatory assembly.

The topic of EU international trade policies is also one that I have been involved in a lot, particularly through the Seattle to Brussels network (which is the European part of the global Our World Is Not For Sale network). We should involve people from this network in the meeting.

In general I think that it is important to use these opportunities to build alliances between trade unionists and other movements. There are interesting networks on all the three topics that you propose:

1. Precarious work: hopefully there will be a European network with which we can co-operate after the Lidl/precarious work conference which is planned for the 14 June in Brussels.

2. The welfare system: the European Network of Public Services, which was set up in ESF Athens, should be involved.

3. International trade: the Seattle to Brussels network.

In addition to this, I will put the Global Network of Labour, as well as the European Social Forum and the Stockholm preparatory meeting, on the agenda of the next meeting of the co-ordinating group of Forum Social Europe (FSE, which is the informal European network of trade unionists, which I have told you about before) - in order to try to mobilise more trade unionists to these networks and activities.

(The document of the FSE which I think I gave you a copy of in Nairobi, has now been finalised, and I attach a copy of the final version. Leopoldo Tartaglia of CGIL has got an Italian version.)

We keep in touch.

All the best.

Asbjørn
