Description: Discussion about the University of Hawaii at Manoa LaTeX thesis class for preparing theses and dissertations.

latex uhm thesis
...Hello Adam. I've Cc'ed your email to the mailing list for discussion of the thesis style. The version of the thesis style available for download on the Google Code site is quite old, however it should work (I'm using it for my dissertation right now). Several people have used this style file to produce theses that were accepted by UHM Grad Division.... more »

New member: Colette
Colette has joined the group, looking for some help with the thesis style file. Colette, can you give us some more information on the problems you are experiencing? LaTeX can be pretty tough to get started with.

natbib/apalike problem
...I think the problem is that the class uses tocbibind, which seems to have some compatibility issues with natbib. Hmmm.

Created wiki page on inserting figures
I just had to figure this out for my literature review, so at Philip's suggestion I turned it into a wiki page on the thesis style site: <[link]> Just FYI.

Fwd: derivative work based on dtxtut
This is just so I have a public record of permission to create a new .dtx file based on the one in the tutorial and distribute it under the GPL. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- ...To: Mark Stillwell <mark...@fortawesome.org> Mark, ...Permission granted. The key idea behind the LPPL, as I understand it,... more »

working on revamp of code
I've added two new files to the repository: uhthesis.dtx and uhthesis.ins. This is the recommended format for developing new classes and packages for LaTeX. Most of the code and documentation is contained in uhthesis.dtx; running "latex uhthesis.dtx" will generate a dvi file containing the documentation. To generate the uhthesis.cls... more »

summary of style guide requirements
From the April 2002 style guide. Pretty dry reading overall, but not that complicated. There are requirements for mounting photographs and whatnot which are probably not directly relevant for most cs students, but maybe we should provide a \skippage macro to keep the page numbering right in case someone does need to include some hand-crafted material.... more »

Cool LaTeX makefile
I found this LaTeX makefile on Google Code that is quite cool. It knows about dependencies, include files, BibTeX, etc. You just type "make" and it runs LaTeX and BibTeX however many times are needed and leaves you with a PDF. You can download it here: <[link]> Just drop it into the directory with your thesis/dissertation/proposal, and... more »

Kicking things off
Hello to everyone interested in the UH LaTeX class for theses and dissertations. The source is now available via Google Code (linked from the About this group tab). Mark Stillwell has been added as a developer since he's planning to update some aspects of the class file. I also added Philip and Henri as a project owners to help ensure... more »
