Last week we did a group review of the book by putting together a list
of all the methods we learned about while reading the book. This
evening we had did some more group learning - this time by starting to
work through the Metaprogramming Koans that Eric found. The command
line version is at:
https://github.com/sathish316/metaprogramming_koans
If you would rather work through these on line, the same person has
created a web version at:
http://rubymetakoans.heroku.com/
Very interesting. Thanks Eric.
For next week we'll be finishing the book - learning some of the ways
Rails extends Ruby using ActiveSupport in Chapter 9. The appendices
are also worth having a look at. They are kind of a grab bag but have
some interesting and commonly used Ruby idioms.
We might also discuss the test framework posts I mentioned earlier:
http://interblah.net/how-minitest-works
http://interblah.net/how-rspec-works
The first one came up in this week's class when we were trying to
figure out some of the mechanics and scoping of the methods in the
metaprogramming koans.
We will also be picking our next book. Feel free to lobby here for a
book you would like to read. As the saying goes "you must be present
to win" - but if you are persuasive enough you might get your book
chosen even if you can't make it to next week's meeting.
