Hrm - ok, I'll look into adding it. My personal opinion is that
Groovy isn't really going to go anywhere, but that's no reason not to
include it.
No, I definitely don't track things that happen to use various
languages as that would quickly become maddening!
Thanks,

Is there some other format you'd like a graph in? What are you
looking for? Maybe I can add it.
My opinion is that we still don't have enough data far enough back to
really see any big trends, yet, especially considering that this data
is fairly rough.

There are a number of books. Job postings as well on sites like Dice
and Indeed (though, you need to look out for such things as "a really
groovy job").

Since you don't seem to be tracking Rails, I won't ask about the
Groovy equivalents Grails and Griffon, either of which would mean you
are writing Groovy.

BTW, you also asked about Groovy, but the moderation thing ate it when
I mis-clicked.
Does it show up in job adverts? Are there books?

I'm sort of reticent about publishing that data - as it is I don't
make much money on the advertising on langpop.com (enough to keep
hosting it, basically). If I start handing out the data, I am worried
about losing even that.

Yes, I'm aware of the problem. The Amazon one in particular is
disappointing, as this is a regression; it didn't use to do that. If
they haven't fixed it by the next round... I'm not sure, maybe I'll
use yahoo search results for amazon.com.

 Hi,
SO is something I've been keeping an eye on. It would be a good data
source, but initially it was very much biased towards C#. We'll see
if users of other languages continue to adopt it to the point where it
settles down in terms of not being too biased.

LangPop is a great resource for gauging trends with programming
languages. StackOverflow is a programmer's question and answer site.
Therefore, I suggest that LangPop reference StackOverflow in its
research. In my opinion, there is no better resource for determining
what is trending right now.

As noted in the "future improvements" section, C-named languages are
hard to distinguish.

But it looks like this is not merely a slight problem but potentially
invalidates the results. In your most recent update (Mon Jul 06
22:04:22 +0200 2009) there are a couple of charts where three
languages beginning with C are quite obviously being treated as a

ASP is a web framework, as is JSP, or for that matter, Struts, Wicket,
JSF or Rails.

So, really a different topic, though I'd love to see a separate series
for that, it should be a separate series.

Evans data gathers adoption data for languages, and they also put web
frameworks into a different list.

Scala and Clojure were very big at JavaOne this year.

It's doubtful that either really rise to the level of being added to
the list, yet, but wanted to bring them to your attention as languages
to watch.

Scala, in particular, seems like it may make an appearance within a
year or so (4 hits on the craiglist search so far :-)
