Hi folks,
We are looking for 5-6 part-time
crew members to join us in the
fields at Land's Sake Farm in Weston, MA this upcoming 2012 farm season.
- The
positions start in the last
week of May with a probable end in the first week of September and the
possibility of continuing into the fall as a harvest crew member.
- The
hours of work will most likely be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (we are open
to changing start time based on the crew's preferences--traffic can be
difficult at that hour) from either Sunday through Thursday, or Tuesday
through Saturday.
- Pay will range from $8.50/hour to $11/hour, depending on experience,
speed, etc. There is the possibility of pay increases based on
evaluation of performance by our crew leader and the farm manager.
You also get free veggies from the farm and a discount on honey, bread
and fruit from our farmstand.
- This is a good first step for those who are looking to check
out vegetable farming in general, or who are interested in future work
at Land's Sake in particular. One of our 2011 weeding crew members is
returning to Land's Sake as a first year Assistant Grower this season!
This will mainly be a weeding and planting position, emphasis on the weeding come July. If we are
in a pinch, we often ask the field crew to join our harvest crew, especially come August. We do prefer some
farming or outdoor work experience, though we are willing to train the
right person. The job requires a strong back, good/tolerant knees, speed and a good sense
of humor. This can be very hard, very tedious work, though it is
rewarding. We have a great team-work oriented crew, and like to have to have fun in the fields!
It is preferable that you have either your own transportation or a dependable way to get to the farm. Bikes and trains count, as long as you can get to work on time!
If you are interested, please contact Melanie Hardy, Farm
Manager, by emailing mel...@landssake.org or calling our office at
(781) 893-1162. I can also connect you to folks who have worked on our weeding crew, if you are looking to hear what the experience was like.
Thanks all,
Melanie
