Possible trip to Sweden in August, to see north European species
Allen Holmes and I are thinking of visiting Sweden in August to see species such as Azure Hawkers, Baltic Hawker, Green Hawker and Bog Hawkers, Brilliant Emerald, Yellow-spotted and Northern Emeralds, and others. It will be a guided tour by [link]. Cost for guiding would be about £150/day for the party as a whole. So price... more »

No April sightings for me
For the first year since I started looking in 2006, I've not seen any Large Red Damselflies in April. I suppose it was to be expected.

No armchair genus tick for Lancashire (yet)
Those of you with a copy of Field Guide to the Dragonflies of Britain ead Europe Dijkstra & Lewington 2006 who have read it front-to-back, may have noticed the possibility of Sympetrum fonscolombii (Red-veined Darter) being re-classified into genus Tarnetrum. I have just been reading a paper published last year that did a genetic and... more »

Prospective interest
Dear All, It wasn't just the dispiriting weather than made this year so memorable, it was the difficulties of doing any sort of planning with those set in and long periods of wet gloom. I would certainly be interested in field meetings with others. I am more tentative about organizing one. The sites I know include Hic Bibi, Healey Nab, Cuerden Valley Park, the Ainsdale NNR slacks (not visited this year), Roudsea and Gait Barrows. Only HN, Cuerden and ANNR guarantee reasonable numbers of common species.... more »

Common Hawkers at Brockholes (?)
I see in the blog that on the 19th: Common Hawker (frequent). I've never seen Common Hawker at Brockholes, and it doesn't appear elsewhere on the blog. Were these positively identified (by yellow costa, or long ante-humeral stripes, for instance), or just assumed by jizz?
