LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA TO CELEBRATE JUNIOR RANGER DAY AND
NATIONAL PARK WEEK

LAS VEGAS - Lake Mead National Recreation Area will celebrate National
Junior Ranger Day, Saturday Apr. 25 with a day of fun family activities.

This is the second year that Junior Ranger Day is being celebrated as part
of National Park Week. Junior Ranger Day activities will be held from 10
a.m.-3 p.m at the Alan Bible Visitors Center just off US 93, three miles
past Boulder City heading toward Hoover Dam.

This year park rangers from all aspects of National Park Service careers
will be on hand from law enforcement rangers, interpretive rangers,
maintenance workers to botanists and biologists. Park emergency equipment
will be on display including a fire engine, ambulance and patrol vehicles.
Visitors will have a chance to learn about some of the plants and animals
that make Lake Mead National Recreation Area home.

Most activities are geared toward young visitors between the ages of 6 and
14.

National Junior Ranger Day celebrates Junior Rangers past and present.
Junior Rangers are people who are young or young at heart who have
fulfilled the requirements to earn a Junior Ranger badge or patch in at
least one of the almost 300 National Park units across the nation that have
a Junior Ranger program. The motto of the program is, “explore, learn,
protect: be a Junior Ranger.”

Visitors from the local Lake Mead and Lake Mohave area can also take
advantage of discounts and specials offered by park attractions. Some
discounts are up to 50% off boat rentals, lake cruises, and excursions.
Locals should ask about discounts when making reservations with park
concessioners. These specials are being offered for the entire month of
April. For more about Lake Mead and Lake Mohave attractions visit park
concessioners at http://www.FunOnTheLake.com.
