Subject: problem with add/remove attribute fields
Since upgrading to 9.3.1, I've been experiencing a lot of problems
with adding/deleting fields within attribute tables.

The first symptom was using model builder to add fields.  In short,
the model would call an exception because it could not establish an
exclusive schema lock.  That problem was related to spaces in folder
names.  That solution required that I share the sub-folder, and then
map a new network drive.  This effectively bypassed all folder
names.

My current problem is the inability to add/remove fields within ArcMap
or Catalog.  Unfortunately, I have yet to identify a solution.  Here's
the error:  "Can not [sic] delete the selected field from the selected
table/feature class because it is in use by another application/
user."   At first, I can add/remove fields on a feature class.  But if
I do it on another, I get the error.  The only solution is to reboot
between each feature class (of which I have about 70).

Has anyone else run into this issue?   I've never had the problem
before 9.3.1 upgrade.   Any tips would be appreciated.

I am not usually much help... The only time I have received that error
message is when I have a web application that uses the database that
contains the feature class I need to make schema changes to...
Temporarily stopping the services to change the schema is the only way
in that situation.

Cheers!
