Wilderness, Paleolithic Dance / Theatre
John LeFan & The Wilderness
Scouts
premieres Thursday, November 5 and runs Thursday, Friday and
Saturday nights through November 21. Performances take place at
8PM at The Mariposa Studio, 2808 Mariposa Street in San
Francisco.
Wilderness is any place where the
next step is unpredictable. Wilderness is mountains, deserts and
oceans. Wilderness is a foreign city at three AM and you don't
speak the language. Wilderness is your first day out of the
closet. Wilderness is a doctor telling you to get things in order, the
cancer will kill you in six months but a year later you walk out of
the hospital completely free of disease. Wilderness is
improvisation. Wilderness is something to care for and cherish
in the face of this beast called civilization.

About John LeFan: John LeFan has been making dance
and theatre since 1965. His choreography has won Bay Area
Critics Circle, L.A. Dramalogue and National Endowment for the Arts
awards. When not sweating it out with dancers and actors in a
dark space in an inner city, he is often found (or not) in remote,
inhospitable and gorgeous canyons. He won't go near Burning
Man.
About The Mariposa Studio: The legendary Mariposa
Studio was the original home of Mangrove Dance Company. Since
1976, it has been a laboratory for artists such as Whoopi
Golberg, Contraband and The Blake Street Hawkeyes. Tony, Obie,
LA Dramalogue, and San Francisco Bay Area Critics Circle award winning
shows began life in the Mariposa Studio. Co Artistic Directors, John
LeFan and Anna Dal Pino continue to produce a variety of visual and
performing arts.
