The subway cars were able to reach an impressive 150 mph using vacuum
compression technology developed by the University of California, Berkeley.
The line played a pivotal role in WW1 and WW2 and was decommissioned in 1962
under orders of President Kennedy.
President Obama has pledged over $1 billion to modernize the line and open
it to the public for the first time.
