They could sell advertising space, maybe inserts with coupons to local fast
food joints...
I'd gladly pay a couple bucks if they bring the old version back.
Another thing they could do to save some dough is eliminate their 800
number. Most people these days have cell phones or home phones with
unlimited long distance, Also, most OCTA riders live close enough to the
call center that it is a local call. So why waste the money operating a toll
free line?

The old version was still highly subsidized. The one dollar charge
was not so much to cover costs as it was to get people to keep the
book once they bought it, rather than throw it away because they could
always get a new one for free.

1-800-COMMUTE is actually a statewide system, shared by all
participating transit agencies. It routes you to the proper agency
based on the area code you are calling from.
And, as someone who has also worked in the telecom business, I can
tell you that "most" people do not have cell phones or unlimited long
distance. About 20% of California's residents are on local-only
landline service and use prepaid calling cards for long distance.
Like I said, stop impressing me with your lack of knowledge. Do a
little research before you post.
I think you mean 511 not 1800 commute 511 is the state wide system
(yes perhaps 1800 commuite at
one time was statewide but most of that 511 will take care off

Who said anything about 800-COMMUTE? OCTA has their own toll-free number
(which I strongly believe should be discontinued).
800-636-RIDE.
Maybe you should do some research before you make a fool of yourself AGAIN.

No, Mark, 1-800-COMMUTE is still functional as a statewide system, as
I described in my previous post. While 511 is being implemented, it
is by no means completely statewide and the 800 number will only be
phased out once 511 has had statewide coverage for a few years.
And guess what that number actually connects to?
Do some more research before you start trying to prove your own
superiority (or lack thereof).

It connects to 714-636-RIDE and is staffed by OCTA and has absolutely
nothing to do with the people that run 800-COMMUTE.
Really, you should do some research sometime. You just proved you know
absolutely NOTHING about what you speak.

I can prove what I said. Can you do likewise?
Actually, never mind. I don't think I'm going to bother coming around
here anymore. Rather pointless, given the class of the discussions.

Thanks. The last thing we need around here is someone like you polluting
the place with your idiocracy.
