In testing for accessibility compliance, we found some changes to our site are required.

1) We need to be able to change the ALT text on a) home page icons to "" so the screen reader doesn't read the image name twice, b) title-<module name> images to the module's name, and c) search_button.png to "search button".

2) The search form fields in home, news, calendar, and video need to have their LABEL text modified.

3) Some screen readers highlight each item they read.  On the "section" drop-down form control in news, calendar and video, the form action is triggered as soon as an option is highlighted.  Because of this, a screen reader user triggers the action as soon as he or she moves the cursor to the first choice and can't select anything else.  We need to modify this form control so that it uses a "go" or "submit" button to trigger the action instead, so that these users can move through the various options before selecting one.

Any suggestions on how we would best make these changes?

Making these kinds of accessibility-related items configurable would be a good candidate for a feature request.

Thanks!

Dan

Are you using a particular mobile screen reading software? this would help us identify additional issues.
