How about watching Google's exhaustive presentation covering Wave and
its features?

It will be useful when folks I want to use it with actually have an account. We shall see.

Google Wave is a collaborative software suite with a by-invitation-only
beta and a very limited user base at the moment. Which is to say,
Google has shot itself in the foot with this one.

Once everyone can use it, then the jury may render a verdict on its
utility. Until then, I'm going to pass, I think.

It's beta. Expect nothing. It's definitely lacking in some areas.
It's definitely innovative in others. I find myself constantly
comparing its various parts to email, IM, IRC, and phpBB forums. If I
could merge together many different communications media like that
into one open, federated protocol, I'm all for it. It's also aiming
at Google Docs and blog comment applications.

Once it's better established, I'll run it on my own domain.

And since it's Google, of course its the best thing ever, until they
unleash the next best thing ever.

How about you reply, while not acting like a self-centered cockfuck?

I would like an invitation.  It would be interesting to try it out and see what it has to offer.

Sincerely,

And they're gone. For those who are not aware already, the invite
system works by "nominating" people, not directly inviting them. I'm
not sure if it is publicly known what happens between nomination and
you actually getting the invite or why they have that step at all. It
was a day or two between when I was nominated and when I got my
invite. I don't know if they rate-limit or bump up people that get
nominated multiple times.

When you get your invite, it will look like the forwarded message
below. The signup is pretty straight forward.

After you've had your account for some period of time, or sent some
number of blips (the wave equivalent of an IM, or EMail, or /msg), a
new wave will show up in your inbox, with the subject "Invite others
to Google Wave", with a widget that allows you to do just that. Check
this thread for people wanting wave invites after 2009-10-27 04:00
Central, to pick up where I left off.

Have fun!

I actually just watched this video, and it is was a good suggestion to
watch it.

Eventually I would hope to see the fall of email and rise of Google Wave.

At first I was thinking that there would be no way that many companies
would trust their collaborative data on the google servers. But they
have open protocols and it seems like a open source server so people
could host their own Wave system.

I imagine it's to build a better influence and social network graph
(or perhaps to make selling invites harder). This way you can be
nominated multiple times and the data would link you. Once you go
down the web traffic analysis path, you discover it goes pretty far
and takes you to strange places like this.
