I think we have to change internet providers, and given the Subisu thread and all the negatives I've heard over the years about various companies, I'm pretty much baffled as to which would be the best option.

We've always had NTC and it's been fine.  Periodic problems, sure, but seemingly no more than others; it's been OK for the price, and we've been fortunate to have problems solved quickly by helpful folks. (One guy in particular should probably get the Customer Service Of the Decade award.)

But ....... even the best people seem unable to fix our current problem and seem frustrated by NTC's many issues. I'm writing this via NCell stick because trying to get internet via NTC at the moment is like trying to catch a fly. Fifteen seconds on, five hours off, one minute on, ten hours off. I am not exaggerating.

That is not a tenable situation. And it's gone on for way too many days now, in spite of technicians visiting the house, doing their best, and ending up concluding that maybe we should do a puja. (OK, they were joking. But that's where we left it.)

So I think we need to find another internet provider.

Recommendations? Experiences?

Please, I am NOT interested in someone contacting me to pitch their own product. I want to hear what actual users have been experiencing -- the good, the bad, the lukewarm. I'm just looking for something that's reliable and reasonably priced for individual household use.

Thanks!

Sally

Hi Sally,

Having tried a lot of internet providers, I came to the conclusion that the most reliable of them all is NTC. However, as you have correctly mentioned, they also do have issues at times. One cable internet provider even threatened me over phone when I complained that his service was not reliable. I wonder where all of our country's computer engineers go, because every time they send someone, it is almost always a guy with a commerce degree acting to be a computer genius, and no wonder these ISPs have a very high turnover.

Hi Sally,
I used to use NTC ADSL connection but that's very slow and if you've got any problem it is pretty difficult to contact customer service guys. So I've been using Worldlink cable zoom for past 9 months or so.. 20GB/month for around 1300 rupees.Customer service is alright. Speed is good. I think installation is free at the moment so it's worth a try if you've got a DSL router.
Take care

Vianet seemed ok. Had problems once or twice but their customer service was pretty good.
Worldlink has some good offers on their site. They are generally pretty reliable but I have not used their services for a while.
