Our May meeting will be on Saturday, May 9th. We will be preparing grow kits as we have done in past years. The varieties we have available this year are the blue oyster, yellow oyster and Phoenix oyster. The meeting will be at Dominique Collet’s home. We will begin sterilizing the straw for the grow bags around 9:00 a.m. and continue into the afternoon until all the grow bags are completed. Please bring a propane burner and large cooking pots, clean drums etc. to boil and sterilize the straw prior to inoculation with the oyster cultures. We will also need folding tables and chairs. Bring them, if you can. Don’t forget your lunch. To off-set the cost to the club for supplies and materials for the grow bags, we will be charging $10.00 per bag for members and $15.00 per bag for non-members. Anything above our expenses will go to fund the upcoming ‘MushroomMania’ Fair in September.
To get to Dominique’s, from Soldotna, drive toward Sterling and turn left on Corey Street. Corey Street is the last left turn before the large brown State Park sign announcing Morgan Landing and Scout Lake. If you pass the State Park sign you have gone too far. Dominique’s house is only 800 feet off the highway. It is the only two-story house with an attached garage and fenced garden.
We will also have a short business meeting, elect officers for the coming year and vote on proposed changes to our by-laws. If you are a member in good standing for the 2009 service year, you are eligible to vote. If you are unable to attend the meeting, you may request an absentee ballot be e-mailed to you.
Our first foray will be sometime near the end of May or first part of June, depending upon when the morels begin to fruit. When we begin to find morels we will set a time and location for the outing.
We hope to see you Saturday.
