to Kenai Peninsula Mycological Society

Hello fellow fungi seekers,

First, I would like to thank Steve Scott, Cliff Cullings and
Dominique Collet for their hard work in directing and organizing our
mycological society. We would not have the club if they hadn't worked
so hard to get it going and keep it active. My hat is off to all of
you, I thank you for your efforts. We will still need your input as we
progress.

Monday June 8th, 2009 we, the newly elected officers, past officers
and a few active members, held a business meeting to transition and
steer the society forward. We have about 250 people signed up for the
e group and newsletter, but only 20 are paid members. In an effort to
increase the membership, and for liability reasons, we decided to
limit participation of organized forays, fungi culture workshops, and
other activities to paid members only. Members will also have a 25%
discount off the cover price of mycology books, and receive through
the mail the periodical magazine "Fungi". Since the development of
wild fungi is so dependent on the weather, the forays will be
announced by email to the members.

Following are the minutes of the business meeting.

The business meeting of the Kenai Peninsula Mycological Society was
called to order approximately 6:30 PM Monday, June 8, 2009.

Minutes were taken by secretary-treasurer Harry Pierce.

Dominique Collet opened the meeting and called for discussion on the
following items:

Newsletter, mushroom foray information, culture information, 25%
discount on book sales, and dues information is to be made available
to all members.
The listed privileges/information will not be available to non-
members.

Change the name from Kenai Peninsula Mycological Society to South-
Central Mycological Society. This name change requires an officer
to contact the State of Alaska to determine the correct procedure to
change the name. Harry Pierce will contact the State of Alaska.
Support the organization of local chapters of the South-Central
Mycological Society in South-Central Alaska from Homer to Talkeetna,
and from Kodiak to Cordova.
E-Mail groups will be formed consisting of the board, officers,
current members, and potential members. These E-Mail groups will
receive E-Mails that contain information appropriate for that
particular work group.

Mushroommania :
We will have a booth with activities for children.
The menu will include chicken and seafood and feature local Boletes
and commercial mushrooms.

Changes were made to the bank records for SCMS on June 8, 2009. Ken
Gill and Harry Pierce were placed on the bank access records and Steve
Scott and Cliff Cullings names were removed.

A foray has been set-up for June 19, 2009. Ken Gill will be the foray
leader. Please contact him at 262-8444 to let him know if you plan to
attend. Harry Pierce will contact the Clarion requesting for an
article to appear in the "Around the Peninsula" section explaining
what, when, where, who, and why for the foray. A reporter will also be
asked to go along on the foray. After each foray, a time for
identification of mushrooms seen/picked on the foray will be
scheduled.

Questions again came up about the "Fungi" magazine. It was determined
that the new dues would be $40.00 per year with $35.00 going to pay
for the Fungi magazine (5 issues annually) and $5.00 going for dues.
The 20 current members will have a choice. They can wait until next
year to pay the $40.00 dues which will get them a year's membership
and a year's subscription to
"Fungi" or they can volunteer to pay $35.00 now and start receiving
"Fungi" as soon as we can get a check and a list of the names and
addresses to the publisher of the magazine.

Harry F. Pierce

Secretary/Treasurer

As you can see, club membership will be required for book sales at a
25% club discount, our newsletter, culture workshops and the forays.
Members will also receive a subscription to the “Fungi” magazine.
We are looking for new members in the South Central area. Please
contact Kate Mohatt in Girdwood area and Roger Long in the Seward
area. We need people from Anchorage, Eagle River, Homer, Cordova,
Kodiak etc. Please contact me if you are interested.

I hope that many new members will join us in our activities.
