I'm delighted to announce that as of this moment, Kod is open source
and available at https://github.com/rsms/kod

I have chosen to release Kod under a modified MIT license which
basically only adds protection for selling Kod as a whole (you can
still use part of the source for commercial work).

1. With making Kod open source I hope we can build a versatile,
universal and modern text editor for hackers of all kinds working on
the Mac OS.

2. I will continue to act as the "owner" (or head maintainer) of Kod,
including the work of releasing tested, signed and official builds of
Kod.

3. This community process will be coordinated with this Google group
as its base.

4. I prefer the workflow of you forking the main repository
(https://github.com/rsms/kod), then send patches for review to this
mailing list. (Please don't send "pull requests" on GitHub).

5. There is no fifth statement.

Now, let's build the most awesome editor ever!

Yay!!

Kudos to Rasmus for starting this project, I hope something awesome
comes out of this. I think today is the beginning of the end of
TextMate. Not that I don't like TextMate, it's really great, but
MacOSX deserves something like TextMate that is actually maintained...

Good luck, and I wish you a lot of patience, it's easy to start
something and then lose enthusiasm and abandon it... I'll try to help
too if I find something that I can help with.

Best regards,
Jakub Suder

Thank you! We will do this together and it will not only be fun, but
spawn a really useful editor.

This is truly a Christmas gift for everyone!

Thank you for doing this, and by this I mean both 1) releasing it as OSS and 2) staying as project head/coordinator. This is even more important!
Going to download source code ASAP!

Also, thanks for choosing a sane open source license.

Wow Rasmus,
This is a truly fantastic move. I think as Kod evolves it really has a chance at becoming the best Mac-like editor for Mac OS X and being open source ensures that we never end up in the situation we have with TextMate with no major updates for years.
