Dear Unity Developers,

Our community of loyal users is what put us on the global map and one way we’ll be supporting and keeping in touch with you this year is by rolling out regional Unite developer conferences around the world. In addition to our main global Unite in Vancouver, you can attend Unite regional events in Malmo, Seoul, Shanghai, Tokyo, and soon-to-be-announced cities in Colombia and Brazil.

Another effort is supporting game jams anywhere we can. We had a whole track of Unity development sessions at the grand daddy of all game jams, Nordic Game Jam. We also gave away extended Pro trials to the particapants in Global Game Jam. GGJ saw 12,000+ people jamming in over 300 venues across 60 countries, with over 1,100 Unity games being made.

And a competition is always a good way to showcase some awesome content created by our users. We just wrapped up the DirectX 11 challenge, so check out the winning and runners up projects here.

Plus, read about awesome new opportunities for Unity users and the latest crop of Unity-authored games.

Shop, collaborate, and get your work noticed in the Asset Store

The Asset Store is its own amazing ecosystem for Unity users! The store now offers over 6,000 time-and-money-saving asset packages. Recent additions include Mixamo bringing Mecanim support to their impressive Mixamo animation store, and several stunning new environments by the ever-talented Michael O. and the folks at Mixamo animation store, and several Dexsoft.

Not only can you shop for assets, you can also find opportunities to collaborate on projects. That’s what happened with our recent crowdsourcing experiment. Artists and designers connected with inXile Games and got the chance to see their artwork come alive in the upcoming Wasteland 2. We will soon be providing new opportunities for crowdsourcing asset development that you’ll be able to read about in upcoming newsletters.

A More Perfect Union

Unity’s publishing program Union returned to CES in Las Vegas this past month, showcasing Australian developer The Binary Mill and its fantastic Mini Motor Racing for LG Smart TVs. The CES demo also highlighted Dual Play, a unique feature on LG Smart TVs that transforms split-screen multiplayer into a full-screen experience for each player via special glasses.Mini Motor Racing is the first game to support the mode, and will join more than a dozen Union games available right now for LG Smart TVs. With 35 games on App World, including many top hits, Union games are also in high demand for BlackBerry 10.

More Unity games are smashing records and topping the charts
Some of the best and most successful games of 2012 were made in Unity. To highlight just a few: Fireproof Games’ The Room was named 2012 Game of the Year on Apple’s App Store. Cardboard Computer’s Kentucky Route Zero and Simogo’s Year Walk were nominated for IGF Awards and DeNA’s The Drowning set new visual standards on mobile.

And just a month into the new year Temple Run 2 has been grabbing headlines by becoming the fastest spreading mobile game ever!
