I'm getting senseless results from the distance calculator. I don't
think I can attach my placemark, and I don't want to paste it because
it's rather long, but I can send it to you. At first, I was getting
extremely negative values, probably from a bad starting point. When I
reentered it, I still got absurd values - I'm checking out a 3-4 mile
trail, and this is what I get:
Total: 3,111 km (1,933 mile)

So it seems to be off by a factor of 500.

Thank you for the feedback.

Actually what confuses is the format systems which are different in
the US and in the continental Europe. The commas are the US thousandth
digit points, indeed.

For practical reasons, it was not possible to determine which system
the user uses when it was coded. As demanded before, it needs a fix -
and maybe it is its time.

Thanks again

Everybody - please feel free to download/use this small java
application I threw together that does essentially the same thing to
measure the path. I wrote it because I couldn't get to that page and
I'd been using it to measure the distance of my running routes.

http://kml-support.googlegroups.com/web/measureGEpath.jar

If you save the target of that link to a file on your machine and you
have java installed, you should be able to run it by double-clicking
on the file (on windows at least).

The source code is in the jar too - public domain

Does anybody have a executable (.exe) application? Personally, i don t
know why we can t mesure path on google, even on pro version.....

It would be nice to be able to modify it just by a click on it, like a
placemark.....

Thanks everybody.

Hi Peter. Check out this topic: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/358193/
The exe tool is here: http://www.sgrillo.net/googleearth/gepath.htm

andymcfly, how can you not get the page?

Can we calculate more than one path at the time with GEPath? like on
the internet one, we just copy/paste the folder containing all the
path in the right place then calculate, but with GEPath, it doesn t
work?

Thanks,

Peter.

I don't know Peter. It works the other way, ie a sheet-to-kml.

You'd better to ask rsgrillo via a private message, the creator of it
in the bbs ( http://bbs.keyhole.com ). He is rarely around though not
active in the forum because of heavy works.

Hi Tek,

Actually I had some problems last months. I had an heart attack in
last April and a heart surgery in June (4 coronary by-pass). I am just
recovering.

Regarding GE-Path, it calculates just one path each time. However one
can organize the placemarks for each path in a Excel sheet and then
copy, paste and calculate (run); clear grid, copy, past and
calculate; clear grid, ...

Sgrillo

Hi, i have this message error when i try to measure a path :

Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'

Operation not Allowed

/google/gec/utilities/index.asp, line 114

The file comes from a SHP file that i have converted to kmz thru
Global mapper 8. When i copy paste the kmz file in the web site, that
s what i get.

Thanks,

Peter

Thank you.

Normally, a kml file contains no empty line feeds. They are unexpected
in the script.

I could not have GE open the kml as you inserted here. Maybe something
is being changed in this forum while pasting and posting.

With me, instead of giving an error, it produces no result.

Anyway, I copied only the LineString and replaced the line feeds with
single spaces. And it works. So, I must tell it to remove the line
feeds.
If the problem is somewhere else, I cannot figure it out because it
seems a non-valid kml file.
Can you please just copy the line path in GE and paste into the box?
Or, alternatively, can you attach the sample kml as a file here or in
bbs.keyhole.com?

:-)

It is a continuously updated server. There can be intervals like the
last one.

BTW, I checked your file. It is so large that I will need some time.

I might have found the problem... Do you web page has a limit of path
contained in the KML folder? Example, if a take a folder and i add a
lot of path, after a certain amout(i don t know exactly but many of
them), the page will bug and say :

Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'

Operation not Allowed

/google/gec/utilities/index.asp, line 114

If i just take off one path from the batch, it will work. So is that
possible that there is that kind of limitation?

Thanks, Peter.

After some minutes of testing, i found that i can calculate the
disatnce of a kml folder that contain 153 paths. If i add another
path, up to 154 now, i m not able to get the distance. So the page is
limited to a 153 paths KML folder?

Thanks, Peter.

OK, I had the opportunity to check it and your kml is fine. It is over
a limit where not the whole of your 65th placemark can get into.
Clearing the non-GE tags can help in this folder because they are
duplicates to the description tag, too.

No, I was wrong. Please, ignore my last reply. Removing the tags will
not help. It is related to the number of placemarks but a bit complex
because of other limits. The script will need a huge update by me to
work out with your kml.
