= CALL NEWS =

At a special General Board meeting on January 23, KML extended a Call to Pastor Matthew Brown to serve as religion instructor (to replace Pastor Moldenhauer, who announced his retirement in December).  Pastor Brown currently serves at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Tennessee.  He is married to Katie, and they have four children.  Besides serving as a religion instructor, he would assist with our Cross Trainers program, would provide leadership in our chapel worship, would serve as a homeroom advisor, and would assist in our athletic department.

The General Board also made permanent the one year Call that Erin Laabs is serving.  Mrs. Laabs will continue serving as an English instructor, as she is doing now.  She will also be a homeroom advisor, will assist with Echoes; and will continue working with musicals, Children’s Theater productions, and other productions in the Fine Arts Department.

At the January 16 Board of Directors meeting, a one year Call was extended to Mrs. April Goldschmidt (nee Alonte) to teach Spanish.  The General Board ratified that action on January 23.  She served with us as a Spanish teacher before she was married this past summer.

Please keep these servants and their families in your prayers as they deliberate.

= WALKING THE PATH UPDATE – WHAT ARE DEFERRED CONSTRUCTION OPTIONS? =

You might have read or heard that the chapel/auditorium and fine arts academic wing has certain projects that can be deferred. Asking the Lutheran question, “What does this mean?”

A deferred project is part of the overall plan, but is something that can be completed at a later date. Some of the deferred options would not keep us from using the facility right away. For example, a new parking lot is not required at this point, and finishing the pit area below the stage can be done at a later date. By deferring those projects, we are able to build a usable facility, but at a cost that is affordable. This also gives us the ability to seek Federation members who can complete those deferred projects at a later date and at a reduced cost. This is similar to the approach we have taken with previous building projects at Kettle.  At the same time, there are other projects that we might not defer such as sound and light equipment in the auditorium and a stage curtain. As this process moves forward, the deferred options will be a critical component throughout the planning stage.

= PRESENTATION SERIES – THE PLAIN PEOPLE…MENNONITES, HUTTERITES, AND THE AMISH =

Our Savior Lutheran Church in Grafton would like to invite you to The Plain People…Mennonites, Hutterites, and the AMISH! There is a certain fascination that we have whenever we think about the Plain People, especially the Old Order Amish.  We know many of them live in Wisconsin, and there’s no way they can be missed while driving the back roads of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and northern Indiana.  Even Hollywood has been intrigued with the Amish lifestyle. Who are these people?  Where did they come from?  Why do they live like they do?  What is their religion?  Why did their lives seem to stand still at a moment in time?  How do they explain the strange contradictions in their use of the automobile, electricity, or the telephone?  What does their future look like?  Join us for a series of exciting presentations at 7 pm on Wednesday January  25, February 1, and 8 as author, and speaker Reynold Kremer takes us on a fascinating trip into Amish country.  We will take a close look at the history, worship, religion, and especially the customs of The Plain People: the Mennonites, Hutterites, and AMISH!
