Friends, We decided to squeeze in the unclaimed Sprague River Raptor Run for
January. It's a beautiful run; let us know if you would like to claim it.
Here's the summary: Date 1/31/2010; RTHA 50; AMKE 3; NOHA 3; BAEA Adults 3,
Sub adults 1; GOEA 3; RLHA 3; FEHA 1; PRFA 1; COHA 1; UI Buteos 4. There has
been a shrike hanging out around mile 18.5 on the Sprague River road but I
still missed getting an ID on which species. Miles: 89; Weather: 80-20%
cloud cover, 3" old snow, calm winds, mid 30's-low 40's F; Time: 4 hrs & 45
min.
Our regular route for Swan Lake-Diary was done on 1/7/10. Summary: RTHA 91,
AMKE 5, NOHA 13, BAEA Adults 2 & Subadults 1, GOEA 1, RLHA 9, FEHA 3, PRFA
2, UI Buteos 2. Miles: 67 miles, time 3 hrs 10min. Weather: Started with 70%
broken clouds, 100% clouds by 1545; wind calm to light; good visibility;
temp = 40's deg F. Comments: Most of the Rough-legged Hawks near the north
end of Swan Lake Valley at that time. A Redtail Hawk was refurbishing a nest
with sticks in a large tree near the intersection of Rt 140 and Bliss Road.
