I noticed that the linuxmalaysia google group
(http://groups.google.com/group/linuxmalaysia ) lists a GeoCities URL as
the public website. But GeoCities has been discontinued.

I'm a web developer and a GoDaddy reseller. I'd like to offer a free
web site to Linux enthusiasts in Malaysia. We can have blog, forums,
wiki, events calendar, and whatever else makes sense for the community.

I don't want this only to represent a single Linux user group in
Malaysia. I want it to include all the groups.

I'd like to work with a single, responsible, Malaysian individual who
would be willing to manage the website and coordinate all of the
content.

Unfortunately, my Malay isn't very good and I don't speak Mandarin or
Tamil at all, so you'll have to be able to speak English with me. I'd
love it if the website had content in every language represented in
Malaysia, though :)

Is anyone interested?

Thank you.

Hey paragasu,
Right now, I'm in Auckland, NZ.  We're here studying.

My wife's kampung is near Papar and we have an apartment in KK.  We've been here (NZ) for about 3 years and we're due to return around the middle of next year.  Before we came here, I lived in KK for about 3 years.

kopovosian do dongo sodob! :)

Yep... I can say good afternoon and good morning in Kadazan... ummm... that's about it :-[

My wife is KadazanDusun... I mean actually KadazanDusun because her Dad is full Kadazan and her Mom is full Dusun.  She speaks some Kadazan, but she's not fluent.

I often get to listen to my father-in-law speaking in Kadazan to Uncles and Aunties, but he always wants to use English with me.  I'm very fortunate.  My wife's family all speaks English very well and, more importantly, they've all welcomed me as part of the family.

Regards,
paragasu

I'm sorry that I don't speak Malay very well, so I'll usually post in English although I can read and understand all the posts in Malay.

When we pulang next year, hopefully I'll get to meet some of you and you can hear how funny I sound trying to speak Malay :)

Okay... this message has been very off-topic, but I wanted to answer it because Malaysians I meet are always curious.  I promise that this is the last time I'll talk about non Linux-related issues on this list, but you're welcome to email me off-list.  I'm not really that interesting unless I'm talking about computers, though.

I'm a little surprised that no one at all contacted me to take advantage of free hosting with a major international hosting provider.

It's okay, though.  I'm still going to do a Linux web site with content devoted to Malaysia.  It just won't have any official affiliation.

I'll do it with Wordpress.  It'll primarily be a blog, but it'll have an events calendar too.  I'm actually working on modifications to the Wordpress Events plugin by Arnan de Gans (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-events).  I'm almost done with the modifications and I'm going to contribute my code changes back to that project under GPL after I'm done.  After that, I'll start working on my Malaysian Linux site.

I'll have a lot of ideas that I can contribute, but it's not really right... Even though my focus is Malaysia, I'm American.  So, don't be surprised if I write back to the lists asking if anyone would like to contribute articles.  And if that request fails, too, I'll just steal your ideas and write about them myself 8-)

Is there anyone on one of these lists who is also a member of the MYPenguin99 list?  If so, can you ask the admin to add me or do you know the email address of someone I can contact to ask for access?

I tried to join the MYPenguin99 mailing list recently, but I think something is broken with the automatic authentication process.  I've heard that that list is still quite active.  I think I used to be a member of that list while I still lived in KK.

Thank you.
