PETE SERIO COMES TO TOWN

As we reported in a previous Inner Circle,
he will be able to work on 1-2 cars while he
is here, along with Pete Hoffman who works for
us, and my son. I realize this is not a good
time of the year, but it is one of the few
times Pete is out here and can be available
to do any window-related adjustments you
may need done to your Turbo Regal. Now
that I have a lift at my house, we can
also install the braces and missing
body bushings.

My son informs me he can also install new power
window motors, too. Pete Serio is only here for
one week. You must contact our office at
215-766-1611 X 3 and talk to Pete Hoffman to
discuss what you want done, and he can give you
prices etc. You have to be prepared to leave
your car to be worked on since some of us can
only do the work at night.

HELPFUL TIP FOR T-Top Owners

I know of some owners that have found out the hard
way that it is very critical you keep your T-Tops
in the LOCKED position when you’re cruising down the
highway. If not, that swoosh noise of air you hear
may be your T-Top or T-Tops getting ready for
lift off. At that point, corrective measures may
be too late! We just heard from one customer who
suffered this fate. Whenever I buy a T-Tops car,
I always check both tops before I load the car
on my trailer.

CAR FOR SALE

Dick Burrer in southern California is putting his
pride and joy up for sale. It is a 1987 Grand
National with T-Tops with 92,000 miles. Car has
86 codes on the trunk ID label. He has installed
many Kirban parts. The car has been converted to
vacuum brakes, and has a 3” down pipe, front
embroidered floor mats, the transmission has been
overhauled and a shift kit was installed,
high-volume fuel pump, new heater core, new master
cylinder, the power antenna has been replaced, etc.

He has a tremendous amount of records that will
go with the car. Car has been repainted.
The interior is in very good original condition.
Every effort has been made to maintain this car.
Car runs out 100%. AC blows ice cold.

DID YOU KNOW

The Oldsmobile nameplate is now a footnote in GM’s
history. However back in 1915, Ransom E Olds was also
credited with creating the power lawn mower. A great
invention, as long as it starts on the first or
second pull!

ONE FOR THE GUINNESS RECORD BOOKS

I was not aware that the Guinness Book of World
Records even had a category for this, nor
would I imagine any one would be interested in
beating this person’s record… the category is
“Greatest Distance thrown in a Car Accident”
and lived to tell about it. The record holder
was thrown 118 feet in the air! The footnote
said he actually lived to tell about it.

As a Good Samaritan, he pulled over to assist
with an accident victim, when he got hit by a
vehicle traveling 70 mph. He suffered two
dislocated shoulders, plus a broken shoulder,
pelvis, leg and tail bone. He spent two weeks
in the hospital, and 80 days in rehab.

Being a volunteer fireman and paramedic, it’s
in his nature to help in emergency situations.
I am sure he will be a little more cautious
in the future!

BACKTRACKING

In recent Inner Circles, we have been writing about
various Turbo Regals and values. As a rule our
findings have always been T-Types and Turbo-Ts just
don’t fetch the kind of money an equal-looking Grand
National will bring. Naturally, there are exceptions to
the rule. A well-equipped Limited in nice original
condition, will generally bring good money. The Limited
being the upscale model with the turbo engine. In
recent years, more potential buyers are in the market
for some of the rarer colors – the sage, browns,
and beige colors.

I can vouch for this, having had two of the sage
Turbo Regals and one of the rare brown ones
over the years. These cars all sold quickly.
However, the deciding factor should be based on
something you personally find pleasing to your eye.

Back in the early days of the automobile, Henry Ford’s
famous saying was “A buyer could choose any color they
want, as long as it was black.” I may not have the
quote exactly right but, you get the picture.

Going back to my GTO days, you seldom ever saw
an original black GTO. Burgundy was a very popular
color on the early 1964-1965 years. I remember
around 1968 they introduced a green. I did not
realize it at the time, but back in those days
when I was dealing in GTOs, I had a black-on-black
1966 hardtop with a 4 speed and tri-power. It had
all original paint. Car also had the highly
desirable Hurst wheels. I think I got about
$3500 for it. Black just wasn’t a popular
color on GTOs. My, have times changed!

In recent years, it seems almost every special
run of a performance model includes black as
one of the limited colors. You have the
1994-1996 Impala SS Mercury with the Maruaders.
More recent would be the V series Cadillac CTS.
There were 1987-1989 LeSabre T-Types, the Burt
Reynolds and the Smokey and the Bandit black
Trans Am and, of course, the 547 GNXs.

Black has that sinister look. The downside is that 5
minutes after you wash it, your neighbor is cutting
their lawn and the dust from the cuttings has already
attached themselves to your car! Any small door ding
is visible. Most paintwork becomes noticeable within
a few months.

Having trailered as many black Turbo Regals and
others, it’s the black ones that garner the attention
from other drivers with a thumbs up. Any other color
and they just don’t seem to register with other
drivers that it is a special performance car.
