1.  Davening this week:
We meet every Friday evening in KI's Rabb Chapel at 384 Harvard St. in Brookline. Our davening this week begins at 5:15pm with mincha, followed directly by kabbalat shabbat and maariv.

Join us for Kiddush after services, sponsored by Benj Kamm and Rabbi Emma Kippley-Ogman in honor of their little one’s arrival.  Thanks for sharing your joy with the community!

2.  Mazel tovs!
Mazel tov to Rabbi Emma Kippley-Ogman and Benj Kamm on the healthy birth of their little one last Wednesday evening!
Mazel tov to Jeffrey Horowitz and Talia Salzberg on their engagement!  (A belated thank you to Jeffrey, who was the Top Secret Sponsor of last week’s kiddush in honor of this simcha!)

3.  Keshet dinner at KI
Keshet is delighted to be hosting our Brookline Shabbat service and dinner at Congregation Kehillath Israel this Friday, 2/24.  We invite KICKS members to join our lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and straight ally Keshet members for dinner following services at 7:15pm.  We'll provide a catered Kosher meat dinner with vegetarian options, and we'd love to have you!  If you are interested in joining us for dinner, please RSVP here so we make sure to have enough food.

4.  Davening partners
At the community meeting a few weeks ago, we discussed several ideas for making KICKS davening more accessible to people new to following a service.  One proposal was for us to generate a list of people who regularly attend KICKS who would be happy to sit with someone on Friday night and assist them in getting oriented to the siddur.  If you are comfortable navigating the siddur and want to be a welcoming presence in this capacity, email Emily Fishman.  Thanks!

5.  KI Kwilters make matzah covers
The KI Kwilters needlework group invites you to come and make a matzah cover for Passover on February 26th, 3-5pm.  It can be whatever you want it to be.  We will be teaching a basic design, but feel free to let your creativity soar.  If you don’t want to make a matzah cover or challah cover you might choose to make a bib. See the pattern here. Space is limited, so please sign up here.

6.  Purim 5772
Purim begins at sundown on Wed. March 7th.  Here is the schedule of events for all ages at KI for the holiday:
On Wednesday, March 7th:
7:00am - Shacharit for Taanit Esther/the Fast of Esther
6:15pm - Full, traditional Megillah reading beginning with Mincha/Ma’ariv in the Rabb Chapel
6:30pm - Interactive Megillah reading with a storyteller and chanted highlights of the Megillah in the Main Sanctuary
7:30pm - All-Ages Purim Party with klezmer music, dinner, hamentaschen, and a costume parade in Landers Hall.  $10/adult or $25/family (suggested donation)
8:30pm - Adult-only Purim Jazz Café with live music, raffles, food and drink (bring your ID) in Landers Hall.  $10/adult (suggested donation)
On Thursday, March 8th:
6:45am - Shacharit services with full, traditional Megillah reading in the Rabb Chapel

7.  KICKS turns 2!
On March 9, we'll mark KICKS' 2nd year with a special birthday kiddush and you're invited to the party. Like most 2 year-olds, our favorite gifts are edible (we especially like cookies and jellybeans). Instead of bringing a gift to the party, please consider a donation to the KICKS Kiddush Fund. Checks payable to KI can be sent (with a note indicating it's a donation for KICKS) to 384 Harvard Street, Brookline 02446. Thanks!

8.  KI’s commitment to Family Table
KI has partnered with JF&CS Family Table and we have made the commitment to collect whole wheat crackers and canned salmon every month. Our collection bin is located in the side entrance near the chapel.  Please help us fulfill our commitment to Family Table by bringing one of these products whenever you come to KICKS. KI has pledged to collect 50 boxes of kosher-for-passover latke mix for a special Passover distribution. Help us make a difference in the lives of those in need by feeding the hungry!

JF&CS Family Table helps more than 300 families in eastern Massachusetts today. With food donations from 58 collection sites such as our synagogue, JF&CS Family Table currently provides kosher food, fresh produce, dairy products, meats, and Jewish ritual and holiday items each month. Family Table also provides emergency food to those in need upon request.

Connect 1 Taglit-Birthright Israel
USCJ is excited to have the opportunity to reach out to our Young Adult population, ages 22-26, by offering a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip in the summer of 2012. Taglit-Birthright Israel provides the gift of first time, peer group, educational trips to Israel for Jewish young adults ages 18 to 26. The USCJ Connect-1 trip is specifically crafted to highlight some of the many wonderful resources the Conservative movement has in Israel and how we are at the forefront of religious pluralism in Israel. We are currently collecting names of potential applicants here.

If you are planning an event that you would like the KICKS community to know about, we will be happy to include it!  Please send a short blurb to kikabbal...@gmail.com.

Matanot LaEvyonim
Please bring your checkbook or cash to KI with you on Purim to give generously to Yad Chessed to fulfill the mitzvah of matanot la’evyonim (gifts for the poor) which is specific to the holiday. You can also give online before the holiday:www.yadchessed.org/purim. (Indicate that you’re giving through KI, so we count you in our total). Last year we raised $1363 for families in need. Can we beat that this Purim?

4.  Help a community member get to KICKS
We are looking for volunteers to help bring a man who uses a wheelchair two blocks from his home to KICKS services on Friday nights.  Anyone interested should contact Ari Abelman at aabe...@gmail.com.  Thank you for making our davening accessible!

6.  Ride to NYC for Pesach
A member of the community who lives at Hebrew Senior Life on Centre St. is looking for a ride to New York City for Pesach.  If you will be driving from this area to the New York City area for the holiday, please email Emily to be put in touch with him.  Thanks!
