Andaman Islands hit by 6.3 magnitude earthquake; no tsunami alert

NEW DELHI - The Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean were today hit
by an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale at 5:10PM, a
scientist at the Hyderabad-based Tsunami Early Warning Centre said
"We have not sent any tsunami alert for the Andamans... No public
evacuation is required," the scientist said.
The epicentre of the earthquake was near the Andaman Islands, he
said.
There was no immediate report of any damage or casualty.
