PM says withdrawal of support by Left not to affect govt stability
NewsWire18, Tuesday, Jul 8
.
NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said the
withdrawal of
support by the Left parties will not affect the stability of his
government,
news agency Press Trust of India reported.
The prime minister, who is currently in Japan to attend the Group
of Eight
summit, also said his government would approach the International
Atomic
Energy Agency at the earliest to seek the approval of its Board of
Governors
for the India-specific safeguard agreement.
Earlier today, the four-party Left Front decided to withdraw
support to
the United Progressive Alliance government over the controversial
India-U.S.
civilian nuclear cooperation agreement.
However, the government, which has been assured support from
Samajwadi
Party, which has 39 lawmakers in Lok Sabha, and some other smaller
groups in
the lower house of Parliament, is expected to survive a trial of
strength. End
