Govt considering demand for export duty rollback on steel products
Friday, May 23
NEW DELHI - Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today said the
government is
considering the issue of rollback of export duty on steel products
among other
demands made by steel producers.
"We (steel ministry) are talking to the finance ministry about
these
demands," Paswan told reporters.
He also said efforts made by the government to contain steel
prices have
yielded desired results.
Seconding his opinion, Steel Secretary R.S. Pandey said Indian
steel
prices are amongst the lowest in the world currently.
"But for the government's intervention, steel prices would have
been
higher by 8,000 rupees per tn," Pandey said.
