Left formally snaps ties with UPA govt; seeks early trust vote

NEW DELHI - Formally snapping their four-year-long ties with the
United
Progressive Alliance, Left Front leaders today submitted a letter to
President
Pratibha Patil withdrawing support to the government.
The Left parties also submitted a second letter, requesting the
President
to convene Parliament at the earliest and ask Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh to
prove his majority in Lok Sabha, CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash
Karat said.
The Left Front comprises the Communist Party of India (Marxist),
CPI,
Forward Bloc and the Revolutionary Socialist Party.
