Stockists say cement cos up prices 3-5 rupees/50 kg in south today
Wednesday, Jul 2

MUMBAI - Cement manufacturers have hiked the prices of the
commodity by 3-5
rupees per 50 kg in south India with immediate effect, stockists and
company
officials told NewsWire18 today.
"We have implemented the price hike from today after assessing the
market
acceptance for the last two weeks," said an official of a large south-
based
company.
Existing demand-supply mismatch has allowed the companies to pass
on
rising costs to consumers to some extent through the price hike, he
said.
He sees the possibility of another hike of 3 rupees per 50 kg in
the next
few days after the truckers' strike ends.
Among the companies that have prices today include Ultratech
Cement,
India Cements, Dalmia Cement Bharat, and Zuari Industries, stockists
said.
With this hike, retail prices in Chennai stand at 272-275 rupees
per 50
kg bag, while wholesale and institutional category prices are around
265
rupees.
In Hyderabad, cement will now cost 220-230 rupees per 50 kg across
segments.
