Yeah, I think this is why I just couldn't get into the Star Wars tournaments.
I want to play "Star Wars", with squads of imperial troops in white armor and led by Vader or an officer or two vs those rebellious...ummm...rebels. And Luke should be about the coolest thing in that rebel group (not frickin' Han or R2-D2).
I've just never been interested in playing a game of Powerful Piece A + Utility Piece B + (more of the same) = a tournament team.
Boba Fett for all of his 10 minutes of screen time was really cool...just not as cool as WotC or the fans seem to think in every piece they put out for him.
I still love my prepainted pieces and I even dust them off once in a while when I can find a player that wants to play a themed game, but that's about it. I'm still trying to find someone to try out the West End Game Star Wars Miniatures Game with me using my WotC Star Wars pieces. That is an actual Star Wars squad based game (similar to something like Warhammer 40k). I'm not sure how great the rules are (although I do know they won awards for best miniatures game rules in 1991, I think), but I know I'd get the kind of game that I'm looking for.
As with all of my hobbies right now...someday...someday...
I'm right there with you on more Tusken Raiders, Chris B. It's probably a throwback to my Decipher Star Wars CCG Tusken Raider deck, but they just haven't done enough variety for my taste. I mean really, who do the Tusken Raiders hang out with? I need to be able to make a cool team with just Tusken Raiders.
Oh well, just another theme player's gripes. =)
I'm still going to do my big Hoth Battle one of these days when I get the urge to write up a special scenario and rules for the event. I think it would be cool. I have 4 AT-AT's and a number of AT-ST's, 6 Hoth Maps, about a Legion's worth of Snow Troopers and Hoth Troopers, enough Hoth-Hero types like General Veers, Leia, Han and Luke on Taun Tauns, and enough artillary to take over every 2-D spot on the maps for a cool 3-D effect. It could be a full day, epic event. Maybe a good 4 player game...2 Imperial Commanders and 2 Rebel Commanders...hmmm...ideas, ideas...
=)
Well, everyone enjoy whatever games you like. I just know that the tournament scene isn't for me. I've been there, won that, but never left with a warm-fuzzy-feeling. It wasn't the players either, just the way you had to play in a tournament to win a tournament.

stormtroopers still receive love in tier 2 or tier 3 play, but not in tier 1 with exception of thrawn swap squads.
no tuskin raider commander yet
