to Crossroads Arts District

I am 1/17 of our Crossroads board of directors. I was popularly
elected by members- not "appointed", "suggested", or "nominated" by
the "leaders" of our organization. Please note that our neighborhood
has important issues that the "past president", current president, and
their supporters do not want discussed.

Here is the issue that has festered for many years now. Development
schemes from what I call unrestrained development interests would be
permitted in this area defined by the Westside neighborhood as their
original and lawful Eastern boundary line. Please understand that the
Westside is trying to protect itself from unwanted development- just
like Crossroads should be doing! Our mistake was, 5 years ago,
refusing to correct our error in laying claim to another
neighborhood's area of control.
Please contact me, if you like, to discuss this further!

Here is the correspondence sent to David, Shaul,
and myself pertaining to the official position that
the Westside neighborhood has had about the area
between Broadway and I-35 that Crossroads claims.
Please note that there is no mention of "agreeing to
disagree" about this matter.
I am sorry that Shaul has to attack me as being a
"disruptive board member", as a way to avoid an issue
that he, and other Crossroads' board people have
studiously kept under cover, ( what- 4 or 5 years,
now? )

Shaul is full of doubletalk.
I will resign the board, ( as he demanded in the ugly
little session, last board meeting ), if indeed Alice
Gomez says that she doesn't know me personally. And I
do expect him to honor my counter demand, ( didn't we
hear him say he accepted my challenge? ), that if
Kathy Kirby did state that this matter IS A BIG
PROBLEM for the Westside -that Shaul resign his board
seat.

I am an advocate for the Crossroads. I support
almost everything that our different board people
support: the CID for our area, regulation of the
proliferation of 3-am bars and strip clubs, the 18th
street connector project, and the protection and
enhancement of the Crossroads native character.
I do NOT support unwanted development schemes, or
the exclusion of dissenting members who do not agree
with our "leaders". Mostly, I do not support the
double talk that Shaul, and David have practiced.

Please consider these letters, ( the same ones
David and I had last meeting ), and understand that I
want our neighborhood to amicably negotiate with the
Westside to resolve this issue.

Here is the correspondence:

Association

RE: Crossroad’s Western Boundary
Dear Shaul;
I understand from Alice Gomez that the Crossroad's
Community Association now recognizes Broadway as the
Crossroad's western boundary. Many thanks for helping
resolve this issue.

The Crossroad's Community Association website and
literature do not seem to be updated to conform to the
Broadway boundary. (Both the Association bylaws and
maps still show the boundary going to I-35.) In order
to end confusion about the boundary could you please
send me, on behalf of the Westside Planning Committee,
a certified Crossroad's Community Association board
resolution stating that the western boundary of
Crossroad's stops at Broadway. I realize it takes
some time to revise your website and map brochure.
Could you please let us know about how long that will
take.
Again, thanks for helping with this. Truly,

Kathy Kirby, Spokesperson Westside Planning Committee

Subject: RE: Crossroad's Western Boundary

Dear Kathy and Alice:
It is very nice to hear from you again. It's been
awhile.
Sorry we haven't responded before now. The letter you
sent came to the wrong address.

Alice Gomez spoke with Shaul Jolles (President of the
Crossroads Community Association) and indicated that a
person from the Crossroads Board came by her home and
indicated the Crossroads Community Association said
its western boundary was I-35 only. This is
inaccurate information that was conveyed to Alice.
The Crossroads acknowledges that there are conflicting
city plans stating the boundary of the Crossroads is
I-35 and the boundary of the Westside as Broadway.
I want to be very clear! Nothing has or is changing
with the Crossroads Community Association in regard to
the western boundaries of the Westside and the eastern
boundaries of Crossroads.

This rogue board member has made some inaccurate
and unauthorized statements and we are dealing with
this.

The Crossroads and Westside have been
very co-operative and respectful of each others
concerns in this matter. The Crossroads wishes to
continue focusing on what we have in common
and continue this positive relationship.

We apologize for any concerns these inaccurate and
unauthorized statements may have caused you and or the
Westside Neighborhood.

Thanks
David D. Morris Chairman, Crossroads Infrastructure
Committee
2131 Washington Street Kansas City, MO.

RE: Crossroad’s Western Boundary
Dear Shaul;
The response by David Morris to my February 6th
letter to you is a bit confusing, so could you please
personally respond to this letter. I think an answer
to the questions below from you, as President of the
Crossroads Board, will clear up the confusion about
where the Crossroads Community Association stands on
the boundary issue.

What is the western boundary of the Crossroads area
according to the Crossroads Community Association?

Are you willing to ask the Crossroads Board to take
the steps necessary to change the association by-laws,
website and maps to show the western boundary of
Crossroads ending at Broadway?

Thanks for your help in this matter. Truly,
Kathy Kirby, Spokesperson Westside Planning Committee
1624 Jefferson Kansas City, Missouri

Kathy,

I received your second letter
today.
To answer your questions:

I-35
No.

The CCA (and the city) doesn't see any issues with
co-existing with the Westside in the area between
Broadway and I-35. I don't really understand why we
have to go through this again, but out of respect I am
responding to your
letter.

Sincerely,

Shaul
Jolles

Dear Shaul;
Thanks for answering the questions.
I don't remember ever speaking with you about this
before.
I believe you spoke with Alice Gomez about this
several times and each time she thought you said the
boundary between Crossroads and the Westside is
Broadway (i.e. Crossroads' western boundary
was Broadway).

Your claim that Crossroads goes all the way to I-35 is
a big problem for the Westside. If anyone says we
have no problem with your boundary claim please
correct them. It truly is a problem.

Thanks,
Kathy Kirby, Spokesperson
Westside Planning Committee

Hello Bill;
Finally last week I got an answer from Shaul about
where the boundary is.
I have lost your phone number, so please give me a
call.
Thanks, Kathy
