Sorry so long but here we go:

For the past several years a small subgroup has ventured out into the sun and gone to events such as Maker Faire, RoboGames, First Robotics events, and most recently a 4H Robotics Conference. This has done wonders for awareness of the group within the education community in KC and beyond. We somehow promote Hammerspace, CCCKC, Maker Faire, 3d Printing, Robotics etc... , and recently my work at Science City without it getting too messy.

So what is my point? If you are interested in contributing to this work just participate when you see events posted. Now I know people join the Hackerspace for many reasons but I think it would be fun for each member to contribute "community service hours" to help paint a wider perspective of the makeup of the group and its interests. We are classified as an educational 501c3 so let's show people we live up to it. People need to see how important this sophisticated tinkering can lead to a career or one's personal educational goals.

While at the 4H Robotics Conference we met and established good relationships with Sparkfun Education, a South Texas Robotics star looking to make cheap kits to help bordertown children learn tech, like he did from junk, and two schools in our neighborhood. Academie Lafayette and Benjamin Banneker (located on Rockhill behind Friendship Chinese.

Benjamin Banneker is holding a STEM event this Saturday and has given us a table to promote the space, 3d printing, and what we, hammerspace too, do. We have a table from 10-2 but the event starts at 9. We can meet at the space and head over or at the school.

They are also a Google Fiber recipient and building a new Media Lab they'd like us involved in. They are interested in having us help teach what they call DigiPen curriculum in their current after school program. They use 3D Studio Max. They have already spoken to the superintendent about training us. I did NOT commit to this as it would require a real time commitment and most likely a 1-2 year contract. I said I'd like to get the details before making an ask of our members.

Come by and checkout our table this Saturday from 10-2. We will report back what we learn. This  sounds like a good relationship for Hammerspace and CCCKC to foster.
