Aim
To introduce the concept of Competitive Intelligence (CI). It is often required from knowledge managers to assist and support the CI manager/team. However, not all individuals responsible for Knowledge Management (KM) have the necessary understanding of CI and thus experience difficulty in supporting the CI function. This workshop aims to provide knowledge managers with an understanding of and skills to support the CI team. The workshop also provides an introduction to individuals who would like to broaden their understanding of CI as an alternative career choice.
Who should attend?
Individuals who are part of a KM and/or CI team. All those who would like to develop an understanding of CI.
Summary of workshop
The workshop explains the interrelationship that exists between KM and CI. A detailed and extensive discussion of CI from both a theoretical as well as a practical perspective will be provided. The manner in which KM should assist and support the CI function in an organisation will be indicated. The workshop will also equip individuals with the necessary understanding of CI to prepare them for a career in CI. Practical guidelines (based on the experience of the presenter) on implementing a CI capability will be provided. Learners should have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of KM (as opposed to only Information management), but no knowledge of CI is required.
