TRAINING WORKSHOPS

(Delegates must choose ONE workshop)

Workshop 1: Knowledge Management in Support of Competitive Intelligence - Presenter: Dr Deonie Botha

The workshop explains the interrelationship that exists between KM and CI. A detailed and extensive discussion of CI from both a theoretical as well as a practical perspective will be provided. The manner in which KM should assist and support CI in an organisation will be indicated. Practical guidelines (based on the presenter’s experience) on implementing a CI capability will be provided. Learners should have an intermediate to advanced knowledge of KM (as opposed to only Information management), but no knowledge of CI is required.

 

Who should attend?

Individuals who are part of a KM and/or CI team. All those who would like to develop an understanding of CI.

 

Workshop contents

- Conceptual records management foundations                                               

- Purpose of a records management (RM) system

- RM legislative and procedural requirements                                    

- Operation of a records storage and retrieval system

- Identification of records                                                                                            

- Records classification systems

- Appraisal and disposal of records                                                                          

- Introduction to electronic records

 

Workshop 2: The Nuts & Bolts of Records Management - Presenter: Mrs Amanda Van Der Merwe

The workshop will equip learners with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to implement a records management programme in their organisation.  Based on Unit Standard 242866: Identify, operate and maintain the records management system in the public sector. This short course was approved by the North West University Institutional Academic Standards on 26 April 2006. The course is at NQF level 3. Learners will earn 6 credits on successful assessment.  Assessment entails a six-month distance programme, during which eight related assignments must be completed. Learners will earn 6 credits if they complete the 8 assessment assignments successfully and receive a North West University short course certificate.

 

Who should attend?

Records managers who are new in the position, filing/registry staff, administrative staff, secretaries, office professionals, managers who need to control their records and anyone who wants to learn about records management.
