to The Kaplan-Sheinwold Bidding System
Entscho Wladow, playing for Germany in the current European
championship, held
K976; KQ; K1052; Q53
When his partner opened 1S, he responded 2C. To the 2S rebid, he bid
3NT.
It turns out that 3NT was cold, but discouraging the club lead avoided
anxious moments.
The only downside to the 2C response is that if partner's side ace had
been in clubs instead of hearts, he would have regretted discouraging
the lead.
Justice was served when his teammates were *not* one the several pairs
who unaccountably refused to cash their 4 tricks against 4S, while
setting up the club queen as declarer's 10th trick.
