I am happy to announce that Kafka has been voted in as an Apache incubator project (with 18 +1 votes). In the next month or so, we will be transitioning our project from Github to Apache's infrastructure. Stay tuned for future announcement.
We hope that the Kafka community will continue to grow under Apache and many of you will continue to use and support Kafka in the future.

For anyone looking to contribute the usual open source methodology of "use it and fix what doesn't work for you" is a great approach. For those looking for more inspiration there are some ideas of proejcts we are either intending to pursue or that would make fantastic contributions: http://sna-projects.com/kafka/projects.php

Congrats! A big personal thanks to the LinkedIn SNA team. I've used several of their projects and they have all been well coded and well thought out from a systems perspective.
