Two categories of submitted contributions are sought.
Category 1: This includes contributions accompanied by demonstrations of
the medium used. These will be given high priority. The length of these
contributions should not exceed ten A4 pages*, see formatting requirements.
Category 2: This includes papers which describe techniques and teaching
methodologies without demonstrations. The length of these should not
exceed six A4 pages*, see formatting requirements.
* Contributions with extra pages will attract a fee of $80 per page.
Multiple contributions will also attract additional fees.
Invited Contributions:
----------------------
Proposals for invited sessions are encouraged. These proposals should be
sent to the Conference Secretariat no later than 1 March, 1996. The

columns with 5mm space between the columns, 25mm left and right margins,
30mm top and bottom margins, 12 point Times font or equivalent. Single
spacing should be used. An abstract of no more than 100 words, positioned
across the page, under author affiliations, indented 10mm each
side. Main headings should be in capital letters, bold and numbered.
Subheadings should be in lower case except the first, bold and numbered.
Figures and tables should appear next to where they are first mentioned,
numbered as Fig.(1), for example, with a centred caption below the figure
or table. References should be referred to and cited in the standard IEEE
format, eg: [14] S. Jones, P. Alan, and W. Chen, "Supervisory control of
thermal systems", IEEE Transaction on Automatic Control, vol. 3, no. 4, pp
11-17, 1965.
Copyright and Conference Language:
----------------------------------
The copyright of all contributions will be transferred to the IEEE and
authors must sign a declaration to this effect. The official language is
English. Papers written in other languages will not be considered. Non
English speaking authors are advised to use a translator for the
preparation of their paper.
Assessment Procedure:
---------------------
Three copies of full papers should be sent to the Conference Secretariat by
1 March, 1996. Authors of accepted papers will be notified by 1 April,
1996. The notification letter will be accompanied by, among other
material, a registration form. Authors must complete these forms and
return them with the final paper and a cheque to the Conference Secretariat
by 1 May, 1996. It must be stressed that under no circumstances will a
paper be further processed if it is not accompanied by a completed
registration form and fees.
Keynote Speakers:
-----------------
A number of internationally renowned keynote speakers have been invited to
present state of the art in multimedia education and related topics. These
include: Prof. Michael Wald (Educational Enterprises, Germany), Prof. Dick
Walters (University of California, Davis, USA), Prof. M. Kootsey

Tutorials on the WWW
1-2 July, 1996
Presenters: John Zakis and Russell Keenan
T1: The Basics of Accessing WWW Resources and Creating your Own Homepage.
Upon completion you will understand the basics of browsing the WWW. You
will also know how to create home page to give yourself a presence on the
Web.
T2: Advanced Interactions with your WWW Browser
This tutorial explores some of the more advanced techniques which enable
the user to interact with the Web in a most effective manner.
Presenter: Craig Burton
T3: Author Ware for phototyping multimedia material
Upon completion of this tutorial you will know how to use Authorware to
create multimedia applications.
T4 : The game of digital multimedia editing
Upon completion of this tutorial you will have a better understanding of
the role editing plays in producing a first rate multimedia presentation.
Presenter: Parviz Doulai
T5&6: Development of Computational Hypermedia Environments using
Web Technology.
These tutorials targeted at those who (a) have used, or intend to use,
computer simulations for teaching and learning, and/or (b) have
entered, or intend to enter, into the exciting world of hypermedia for
educational purposes. In "T5" the Web technology is discussed and its
use as an emerging educational delivery tool is demonstrated. Diverse
media files such as hypertext, images, sound, animations and
simulation programs are being integrated in a structured way.
Simulation programs are used to demonstrate the methods of
establishing dynamic links between the components of the
"computational hypermedia environment". In "T6" widely used MS-Windows
shareware application programs are introduced, and used to develop a
general purpose computational hypermedia environments. Different
types of educational media files (html, gif, au, etc.) are generated
and/or edited, and links are provided to sample MS-DOS and MS-Windows
simulation programs.
All of the tutorials will include hands on experience using a PC or
Workstation. For this reason numbers are limited to 20 per tutorial and
places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
