http://teachers.net/gazette/wordpress/october-2009/ This month's
Effective Teaching column by Harry and Rosemary Wong, "Inner City Is
Not An Excuse."

The achievement did not make the headlines in the local newspaper;
there wasn't a mention on the evening news; and nary a tweet was
twittered. This past school year all of Marco Campos' students passed
the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test in Reading
and in Math. Every. Single. One.

So, what makes this newsworthy? Marco Campos teaches in what some
people refer to as an inner city school attended by low-income,
minority students.

Read about how teacher Marco Campos makes sure his students are NOT
victims of what is sometimes called the “soft bigotry of low
expectations,” working in what is described as "an effective school
culture."
