There has been talk in my state also to have teachers be evaluated based on
their students test scores. Yes, I think that teachers should be accountable
in some way but to base it solely on the test scores I think is ridiculous.
These children depending on what grade you teach have had several years of
schooling before reaching you. So you are accountable for not only what you
are suppose to teach them but what they should have learned in the previous
grades. Not to mention you don't even have the full year to teach them
considering the test is given at the beginning of March. Then do we take in
to consideration the dynamics of your classroom. How many of the children
are receiving special services, being pulled from your room several times a
day, etc. I think that it really needs to be looked at further before our
jobs are on the line for one test.
